Month 2 of my Triathlon Training
I can't believe that I'm starting month 2 of my training for the Timberman 1/2 Ironman with Sharon Johnson. It's bad that I haven't done a blog since I started but I've been training! Sharon has me working out 6 days a week with one cherished day off. I can't say that I feel much stronger but I'm trusting that I am. My legs are in a constant state of fatigue so they will know the feeling well on race day. My friend Terry and I were planning on riding the bike course tomorrow but after several weeks of no rain tomorrow it's going to pour. Running in the rain is fine but riding in the rain isn't fun at all. Plus, that's when you typically get a flat which I want to avoid at all costs. Hopefully I can ride in the morning at home before the rain starts. I need to get in at least 50 miles.
We've been having a heat wave in New England and it's HOT. I've learned the secret from my Orlando running peeps that you have to start your workout around 5:00am and get it in before the heat really starts. It felt good to have my 8 mile run done this morning before 6:30am. The heat has made me become a fan of swimming in a pond which was a major breakthrough.
I went to the Timberman website this past week and totally freaked! They have photos of last years participants and they are way above my league! The photos of the swimmers were especially scary. I don't like sharing a lane with others in the pool let alone swimming in a lake with a zillion crazed triathletes that want to win! Again, why did I sign up for this?
After 3 months my chicken arms are still hurting and that's without doing any of Sharon's special side planks, pushups, and other crazy things that she can think up. I finally went to a wonderful PT named Jennifer Hogg who informed me that I have tendonitis in both arms.....oh joy! I went on heavy duty Aleve for a week and that seems to be helping a lot. I can't tell Sharon though because she'll make me start doing everything again. I need at least another week or two for a better recovery!
6 more weeks until the race.....
